I was commissioned by University College London Hospitals (UCLH) to create two illustrations that reflected how young people feel about having their voices heard in healthcare.
The illustrations were used as part of a wider engagement project with young people accessing healthcare services, aiming to visually express themes of agency, frustration, empathy, and care.
I began by working closely with the UCLH team to understand the lived experiences of young people navigating the healthcare system. Based on these conversations, I developed a set of rough visual sketches to explore metaphors and emotional tone, from isolation and invisibility to support and empowerment.
The final illustrations use an expressive style to communicate the key messages. It was created to feel relatable, emotionally honest, and rooted in the perspectives of young people themselves.
